PILLARS SOUL-D

As we approach the full release of PILLARSHonest People EP, the London-based artist shares another noir-pop wonder that exposes a persona and painful life experience. In a Facebook post, PILLARS explains that ‘Soul-D’ “was a love song to my anorexia... a mourning over the loss of a huge part of me,” written shortly after the young songwriter left therapy. Peeling back the layers with choral synths, clock-like ticking, whipping electronica and brooding bass beats, PILLARS’ celestial voice floats over the sonic chaos with a mournful tone as she say farewell to a mental illness that is so often indistinguishable from the suffering individual. It’s a powerful second of electronic-R&B that an increasingly number of young people will be able to relate to, whatever point into their recovery they may be in. ‘Soul-D’ is hopeful in PILLARS’ own dark, pensive way. - HT
